This Just In...

Lipstick sales are down 5% while nail polish sales are up 15% since last year grossing $173 million dollars. As you know, I have a thing for nail lacquer...ok call it an obsession. Before I was old enough to wear nail polish, I would put stickers on my nails (LOL). But that embarrassing nugget is beyond the point.

These stats got me thinking what is the recent fascination with our fingertips? An ABC special calls it "a sign of the times." Makes sense. Celebrities have just about endorsed every other beauty product from fragrances, to makeup, to hair dye. Nails were all that's left.

I must say that my nail hobby has saved me quite a few bucks at the nail salon. I believe in becoming more self-sufficient for all beauty needs including hair. In times like these should we really be shelling out $50-$100 bucks every 2 weeks at the salon and an extra $20-$40 on nails, eyebrows, lashes, etc? Probably not.

I personally never spend more than $3 on a nail polish. I don't care how much you pay the polish probably won't last past 5 days so why spend a fortune? Unless you're a monochromatic girl, which clearly I am not.

At any rate, now might be a good time to invest in O.P.I. stock #wordtothewise ;-)

Blue Gradient Nails Tutorial

My blog has been infiltrated with nail posts lol. But what can I say, I just love it!

I saw a tutorial on youtube via MissChievous on these bomb gradient nails and decided to try it. I did a more blue version with the colors I had but I think it turned out pretty well. Not bad for a first time eh?!

OPI's Black Shatter Nail Polish Update

You may recall my last post on OPI's black shatter nail polish. Well, I have an update! I haven't tried it for myself yet, but via luxuriousnais, a nail art vlogger I subscribe to on youtube, there is a tutorial on how to use the polish and I've gotta say it came out pretty nice!

Apparently it dries really quickly and applying it is as easy as painting your nails.

As far as I know, right now the polish is only available online. OPI's website says its hitting stores soon. Keep an eye out!

Nail Trend! Yay or Nay?

The latest trend in nails is 3D nails. Well actually I was in Hawaii about 3 years ago and they were doing 3D nails in the salons then. So i guess its just now catching on. My question is how do you get it off? Is it safe for natural nails?

I'm all for hot nails, but I also want my nails to be healthy.

The jury's still out on this one...

Nail Trend!

One of my fav bloggers and fellow nail fanatic Necole Bitchie did a post on a new popular nail trend that I love! Its called crackle nail polish.

I almost ALWAYS have on nail polish and more often than not I have some intricate and fun design on my nails. And as much as I love being creative with the designs it can be time consuming. So when I saw these funky nails and how easy they are to accomplish I immediately began to lust!
All you have to do is paint the special polish over the nail and it dries in this cracked pavement pattern. Genius!



So far the nails polish is available at beautyexpressmall.com for about $15, which is more than I would ever pay for polish. Katy Perry is releasing a slightly cheaper product through O.P.I. (good stuff) for $9. It will soon be available at ulta.com

Much more nail fun to come because I'm addicted!
